Football Makes Letting Go of Broyles’ Son-In-Law & Other Ties to Past Harder to Stomach

Very early in my freshman year at the University of Arkansas, I had a rather ambitious idea that required some help from the UA athletic department.

It was the fall of 2012 and the 50th anniversary of the Razorbacks’ 1964 national championship season was two years away. My goal was to talk to as many of the living players and coaches from that team and then write a book chronicling not only that season, but what happened to them afterward.

After some poking around, I discovered who I needed to talk to: Kevin Trainor.

One email later, I was in the office of the UA’s head public relations person inside the Broyles Center with a folder containing all of my notes.
