DVH’s Gamble Backfires in Late-Night Thriller After LSU’s Questionable Decision

The Razorbacks once again found themselves on the wrong end of some Alex Box magic in the Arkansas vs LSU series opener Friday night – or, technically, Saturday morning.

Jared Jones slid in just ahead of Ryder Helfrick’s tag to give Ethan Frey a sacrifice fly that lifted No. 3 LSU to a 5-4 win over No. 7 Arkansas at 1:17 a.m., ending a 10th-inning thriller that was delayed for nearly 2.5 hours because of rain.

It was the exact same time of day Jones hit a walk-off home run for the Tigers (39-11, 16-9 SEC) in a similar situation against Tennessee two weeks ago and brings back painful Alex Box Stadium memories – like the rally possum – for the Razorbacks, who have won just two of 10 series there under head coach Dave Van Horn.
