The coaching carousel in college football is one of the most lucrative annual loyalty contests out there. Slimy agents and wealthy boosters duking it out to see just what the price tag would be for a coach to uproot his life and go somewhere else.

This year’s coaching cycle is a historically raucous affair. November has only just begun, and there are already nine vacancies at the Power Four level, a record number of midseason firings. Many other coaches reside on boiling-hot seats that could spill over any week now, including Michigan State’s Jonathan Smith, Maryland’s Mike Locksley and Florida State’s Mike Norvell.
