FAYETTEVILLE — Payton Burnham has been among the Arkansas softball team’s standout performers in her debut NCAA Tournament.
The freshman pitcher began her postseason career with a no-hitter against Saint Louis. She followed that with a strong relief performance during a comeback victory over Oklahoma State.
Burnham, one of the Razorbacks’ ace pitchers alongside Robyn Herron, did not pitch in Friday’s 9-7 loss to Ole Miss due to illness.
“She was on her deathbed,” Arkansas coach Courtney Deifel joked.
Herron started but was also ill and only pitched 2 innings. Deifel said Herron was also feeling better.
