The human brain is capable of going just about anywhere when its proverbial user feels threatened. Hallucinations, justifications, insurrections. When scared, people will come up with anything to avoid confronting the possibility of losing. They will go so far as to make things up out of whole cloth if it helps rationalize their fear.
Apparently, when it comes to football, Alabama is scared.
That, really, shouldn’t be all that surprising for a state not exactly known for unfaltering heroism, graceful defeat or human decency. (Words written only somewhat in jest.)
