Arkansas House of Representatives passes bill banning guns from stadiums

The Arkansas House of Representatives passed Thursday a proposal to exempt athletic stadiums from a new state law that would allow concealed guns to be carried into the venues.

The House voted 71-20 for the exemption. The bill now must go back through the Arkansas Senate.

Last week, the Senate voted 22-10 in favor of the exemption one day after Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson signed HB1429 into law.

Under the new law, known as HB1249, people are allowed to carry concealed handguns into athletic venues – as well as college campuses, government buildings, and some restaurants, bars and places of worship – if they have a concealed carry permit for it and undergo eight hours of active shooter training.
