Arkansas golfer Maria Jose Marin had a career goal of winning the NCAA individual championship at some point during her college career.
Seizing the top prize as a sophomore showed the time was now for the native of Cali, Colombia. The SEC player of the year capped her individual championship with a flourish, sinking a 12-foot birdie putt on No. 18 to seal the deal Monday at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
“It was like one of my long-term goals, that maybe I could achieve it in my senior year, my junior year,” Marin said.
