SEC player of the year Maria Jose Marin tore up the course with a bogey-free 7-under 65 to take the individual lead and help the No. 2 Arkansas women’s golf team move into a tie for fifth place after the third round of the NCAA Championships on Sunday.
Marin birdied Nos. 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 13 and 17 en route to the best round ever for a Razorback at the NCAAs. It was the best round of this year’s championships at the 6,330-yard North Course at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
The sophomore, who moved up 10 spots in the field, will take a 1-stroke lead over Stanford’s Paula Martin Sampedro into Monday’s final round of stroke play after which the field will be cut to the top 8 teams for match play.
