Arkansas’ first game without former coach Sam Pittman played out similar to earlier games this year before the coaching change.
The Razorbacks were outplayed after halftime and lost 34-31 at 12th-ranked Tennessee in front of an announced crowd of 101,915 at Neyland Stadium.
Arkansas (2-4, 0-2 SEC) lost its fourth consecutive game. During the losing streak against Ole Miss, Memphis, Notre Dame and Tennessee, the Razorbacks have been outscored 49-24 in the second half.
Turnovers played a factor in the latest post-halftime drought that allowed Tennessee (5-1, 2-1) to build a 34-17 lead.
After Tennessee took its first lead, 20-17, on Max Gilbert’s 50-yard field goal early in the third quarter, Arkansas drove 61 yards to the Volunteers’ 29, but lost possession when running back Braylen Russell fumbled and Arion Carter recovered.
