Arkansas football brings different routines, mindset into Tennessee game

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — With interim coach Bobby Petrino in charge of Arkansas’ football program again, things are done his way.

Tuesday and Wednesday practices are 2-hour, 10-minute slogs. Perfect Thursdays include fast-tempo hits of gametime situations with the goal of no errors. Doughnuts would “probably” welcome players at 7 a.m. that morning, so they could smile through position meetings.

“It’s been fun to name it Perfect Thursday years and years ago,” said Petrino, who went 34-17 at Arkansas from 2008-11. “Some of the reason we did that is for the coaches to be positive and make sure that we get our players in the right state of mind to go battle on Saturday.
