Arkansas baseball will start Zach Root first against Tennessee

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas will start left-handed pitcher Zach Root against Tennessee on Saturday in Game 1 of the NCAA Fayetteville Super Regional.

Dave Van Horn, the Razorbacks’ 23rd-year coach, stopped short of announcing Gage Wood as the Game 2 starter against the Volunteers on Sunday.

“As of right now he’s going to be a starter,” Van Horn said, “but you just never know when you get to these series like this how you’re going to do it.”

Root (3.78 ERA, 1.23 WHIP) has been the Razorbacks’ No. 1 starter since SEC play began in March. He allowed 4 runs, 7 hits and 2 walks, and struck out 4 in 3 2/3 innings of a 10-7 loss to Tennessee on May 15 at Baum-Walker Stadium.
