FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas shortstop Wehiwa Aloy was named SEC player of the year Monday.
Aloy is batting .358 with 18 home runs, 17 doubles and 58 RBI. Batting second in the Razorbacks’ lineup, Aloy has a 1.117 OPS and leads the SEC with 82 hits and 72 runs.
He is also one of the nation’s top defensive shortstops with a .979 fielding percentage.
USA Baseball named Aloy among 25 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award on Sunday. He has also been nominated for the Dick Howser Trophy.
“If you just look at his whole body of work, he played shortstop…and he’s started every game this year,” Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said.
