FAYETTEVILLE — Breaks went the way of the 14th-ranked Tennessee baseball team Thursday night at Baum-Walker Stadium.

The Volunteers homered 4 times and defeated fifth-ranked Arkansas 10-7 in the series opener. The teams are scheduled to play again Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Tennessee (41-13, 16-12 SEC) will attempt to win the series with its ace, left-hander Liam Doyle, set to start Game 2. The Razorbacks (41-12, 18-10) lost Game 1 with their ace, left-hander Zach Root, failing to make it out of the fourth inning.

Root made it through the third inning in 31 pitches, but could not escape a fourth that saw him throw 37.
