FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas left-handed pitcher Zach Root was named SEC pitcher of the week, the league announced Monday.
Root threw 8 scoreless innings during Arkansas' 9-0 victory over Texas last Thursday. He had a career-high 11 strikeouts in his career-long outing. He allowed 2 hits and 2 walks in his fourth quality start of the year.
It is the second time this season Root has earned pitcher of the week honors. The first came after a 7 2/3-inning start at Vanderbilt on March 28 in which Root struck out 7 and and allowed 3 hits and 3 walks during a 9-0 win.
