FAYETTEVILLE — A late September baseball scrimmage provides the perfect setting for a newcomer to make his presence known, and Christian Turner did just that Friday night at the Arkansas Fall Classic.
Turner, a freshman from Haughton, La., helped his Black team earn a 7-6 win against their Cardinal counterparts. Turner went 3 for 4 with a home run at Baum-Walker Stadium in front of several-hundred fans.
The left fielder turned around a Cole Gibler fastball in the top of the first inning for an opposite-field solo home run. That gave his team a 1-0 lead.
“Yeah, I mean, he goes deep off a lefty — left on left,” Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said.
