UA survives exhibition scare vs. Chico State

TUCSON - Short-handed Arizona ran into an exhibition scare against deeper and older Chico State before pulling out a 78-70 win today at McKale Center.

Chico State, one of the West’s top Division II teams, shot 48.2 percent from the field and outrebounded Arizona 30-28.

UA was playing with only seven scholarship players while Chico State went to its bench early and often, going 11 deep after just eight minutes and staying better rested than Arizona, which didn’t play any of its walk-ons.

UA was again without guard Allonzo Trier, who appears to have a pending eligibility situation, and center Chance Comanche, who was suspended indefinitely for academics last week.
