It might have been the best play of Arizona’s season so far. Or, at least, the most important one.
And it probably should never have happened.
Arizona and Utah were tied in double overtime Saturday when Nate Phillips, blanketed in one-on-one coverage, looked to the sky and saw Jerrard Randall’s pass headed his way.
Earlier, the same play call resulted in an interception. The Wildcats audibled to it anyway, seeing an opportunity to upset the 10th-ranked Utes.
Phillips dove, reached out his left hand and caught the ball, pulling it into his chest as he fell into the end zone.
