The University of Miami announced on Monday its starting quarterback will be Jarren Williams, not Tate Martell.
The news was met surprise since Martell was considered by some to be the favorite since he transferred from Ohio State and was granted immediate eligibility at the school.
Williams also beat out incumbent starter N'Kosi Perry for the job.
Martell could stay at Miami and continue to battle for playing time, or he could transfer for a second time, but he would likely have to sit out the season if he did.
