LAS VEGAS - Oregon residents Jeff Hanna and Tom Cassell strolled up to T-Mobile Arena excited about watching their respective rooting interests square off at the Pac-12 basketball tournament. They arrived to see tournament personnel taking down banners and disassembling entertainment stages adjacent to the venue.
The Pac-12 followed the lead of the other major conferences and canceled its postseason tournament, as well as all other athletic events as well in light of the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. That came after a morning conference call between NCAA representatives and commissioners from each conference.
Being on the West Coast, the Pac-12 teams at least had some notice.
