TEMPE — Marissa Schuld’s first career homer lifted No. 5 Arizona to a 6-3 win over Portland State in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader at the Kajikawa Classic.
Schuld’s two-run bomb to left snapped a 3-3 tie in the fourth. Two innings later, the sophomore from nearby Pinnacle High School roped an RBI double to right-center, finishing with two hits and three RBI in her season debut.
The Wildcats (3-0) will wrap up the day at 11:30 a.m. MST vs. Western Michigan.
“I was just trying to relax, most importantly,” Schuld told the Pac-12 Network.
