Former Chandler all-state RB Drake Anderson leaves Northwestern for Arizona Wildcats

New University of Arizona football coach Jedd Fisch hasn't taken long to score big in recruiting former Chandler High School standouts.

The same day safety Gunner Maldonado announced he has committed to Arizona, running back Drake Anderson opted to transfer schools and play for the Arizona Wildcats.

Running back Drake Anderson (2) celebrates with wide receiver Brayden Liebrock (19) of the Chandler Wolves following a touchdown during the 6A quarter-final football game between the Chandler Wolves and the Pinnacle Pioneers at Chandler High School on Friday, November 10, 2017 in Chandler, Arizona.

Both players are leaving Northwestern in the Big Ten to play together in the Pac-12.

They were among the state's top recruits in the 2018 (Anderson) and 2020 classes (Maldonado).

"Coach Fisch has now landed two of the top recruits in their Arizona classes in Drake Anderson and Gunner Maldonado," Chandler coach Rick Garretson said.
