College World Series: Nathan Bannister strikes out 11 batters as Arizona beats Miami 5-1

OMAHA, Nebraska — Arizona baseball’s quest for a fifth national championship began with a 5-1 victory over the Miami Hurricanes Saturday night at TD Ameritrade Park, placing the Wildcats in the College World Series winner’s bracket.

Nathan Bannister allowed one run over seven innings and struck 11 Miami batters, while Arizona baseball capitalized off a shaky start by Miami’s Michael Mediavilla.

It was the fifth consecutive start that Bannister had gone at least six innings while allowing three or earned runs or fewer.

Bannister didn’t need a ton of run support, but the Wildcats provided plenty at a park where scoring is a premium.
