Arizona soccer makes NCAA Tournament, but ASU not among five Pac-12 selections

Arizona was among five Pac-12 women's soccer teams selected for the NCAA Tournament on Monday while Arizona State fell short of an at-large bid.

UA (12-5-2) will host Denver University (13-5-2) in a first-round match Friday with the winner facing the winner between Tennessee, a No. 2 seed, and Louisville.

Defending national champion Stanford, UCLA, USC and Washington State also are in the 64-team field from the Pac-12.

ASU (10-7-1) believed it deserved a bid after a late season four-match win streak but lost 1-0 to Arizona and 4-1 to No. 1 Stanford last weekend.

"I'm very proud of how far you've taken this program (up over 100 places in the NCAA ratings percentage index) in the last two years, but unfortunately we were one game short this year," second-year coach Graham Winkworth told his players after the pairings were announced.
