Why is ASU expanding football recruiting footprint? To find players with big footprints

Herm Edwards has been through three recruiting cycles as Arizona State’s football coach, and he’s learned a few things along the way, including:

— About 90% of his time is spent on recruiting, not the 70% or so he expected.

— Elite quarterbacks tend to commit earlier than players at other positions.

— And if you want linemen and pass rushers with size and length – guys who can shake hands with you without crossing the room – it requires more than driving around the Valley or taking short flights to California.
