Swift wins Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, Long gets All-American nod, other Sun Devil honorees

The Arizona State baseball team believed all season it had some of the best players in the conference sitting in their clubhouse. On Thursday, voters for the Pac-12 regular season awards agreed.

Ethan Long and Drew Swift were named All-Pac-12 first team selections.

Long finished with a scorching-hot second half of the season to become the best freshman baseball player in Tempe since Spencer Torkelson. Collegiate Baseball Newspaper also named him a second team All-American.

Swift, the best two-way player on the team, also collected Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year honors.

The rangy infielder moved from second base over to shortstop this season, but didn’t miss a step as he led a trio of freshmen to become a defensive infield ground balls rarely exited.
