No. 25 Arizona State gave up momentum late in the second quarter Saturday night by passing on a short field goal to potentially lead by two possessions at halftime and never regained it in a 28-21 loss at San Diego State.
Energized by a sack of quarterback Manny Wilkins on fourth-and-1 at the 11-yard line, the Aztecs drove 85 yards to pull even at 14 at halftime at SDCCU Stadium.
They scored the first six points of the second half on two field goals, one of 54 yards by John Baron (second-longest in San Diego State history) and seemingly put the game away with a 3-yard touchdown with 4:14 remaining.
