Arizona State hockey leaves Friday for a season-opening road trip that will last longer than when the Sun Devils traveled to China in August 2019.
The Sun Devils will be away for 22 days, playing the first eight of 28 games, all away against Big Ten opponents due to the coronavirus pandemic. They were in China for less than two weeks.
Because ASU hockey is independent, partnering with the seven-team Big Ten for 2020-21 was the only realistic solution for scheduling given few non-conference games being played across Divison I.
The Sun Devils' original hope was to travel for only four games at a time.
