Tyler Thornton, NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball national Freshman Pitcher of the Year, is transferring to Arizona State.
The 6-3 right-hander was 10-2 with a 2.71 ERA, 94 strikeouts and 27 walks for Saint Mary's in the West Coast Conference.
He will be immediately eligible for the Sun Devils.
Thornton is in contention to play for the USA Baseball Collegiate National team that will include his new ASU teammate Spencer Torkelson.
ASU recently hired a new pitching coach, Jason Kelly, formerly at Washington.
Thornton joins a staff that includes returners Boyd Vander Kooi, RJ Dabovich, Brady Corrigan, Blake Burzell and Erik Tolman.
