BERKELEY – For 35 years, the Sun Devil Baseball freshman home run record sat untouched. Barry Bonds hit 11 in 1983 and it wasn't until Spencer Torkelson claimed the NCAA home run crown as a freshman in 2018 with 25 that that record went down.
Now, just three seasons later, Torkelson is the one looking in his rear-view mirror as Ethan Long charged past Barry Bonds for second in ASU frosh lore with a two-home run effort at Cal on Saturday to lead the Sun Devils to a series-tying, come-from-behind 6-3 victory over the Golden Bears in Berkeley.
