Herm Edwards introduced Mandrake, his mythical recruiting ideal, during Arizona State football signing day Wednesday.
The genesis of Mandrake, according to Edwards, is a Jimi Hendrix album cover, perhaps from the famed 1967 Monterey Pop Festival since as we all know by now that's where Edwards grew up in northern California.
What is clear is that when ASU coaches hammer away at identifying the kind of DNA they want in their recruits, Mandrake is the personification of what they're seeking.
