PAYSON — Battling for the starting quarterback against three other athletes in a Division I football program is a challenge in itself. But for Arizona State's Joey Yellen, the week has had an even greater challenge.
The true freshman out of Mission Viejo, Calif. is grieving the loss of older brother Cody, who died Aug. 2 at the age of 26.
Joey Yellen announced the loss on Twitter Wednesday, shortly after the Sun Devils wrapped up their second practice in Payson.
Despite the loss, Yellen has not missed a team meeting or practice and has continued to work toward playing with the Sun Devils at Camp Tontozona.
