The first day Sun Devil men's tennis players took to the court since the spring of 2008 resulted in a solid Friday at the Claremont USTA Futures Classic held at the Claremont Club in California.
Freshman William Kirkman defeated Connor Rapp 7-6 (7), 6-3, and now will face Marnix Pluim.
Sophomore Makey Rakotomalala topped Hong-Lin Fu in two sets (6-2, 6-2) and will now face Tanner Smith of USC.
Sophomore Tim Ruehl defeated Ryan Van de Water (6-2, 6-2) and now will face Piers Foley.
Ronan Joncour and Michael Geerts will compete in the main draw that begins over the weekend.
