TEMPE, Ariz. – For the second time this season, redshirt junior Maggie Ewen broke the American collegiate record in the women's hammer throw, this time reaching 72.81m (238-10.50) on the first day of the 2017 Duel in the Desert at Sun Angel Stadium.
On her second attempt on Friday afternoon, Ewen broke the record she set at the Baldy Castillo Invitational of 72.71m (238-06). For the first time this season, however, Ewen stayed consistently over 70 meters, hitting 71.53 and 71.44 on her fourth and fifth throws, respectively.
The mark continues to sit atop the national leaderboards by a whopping 15 feet.
