Early Lead Spoiled at #1 Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Sun Devil Hockey gave No. 1 Minnesota its first deficit of the season with a 1-0 lead through the first period but couldn't hold on ending with a 4-1 loss at 3M Arena at Mariucci on Sunday afternoon.

Freshman forward Matthew Kopperud opened scoring for the Sun Devils (4-7-2) with the first powerplay goal allowed by Minnesota's top-ranked penalty kill team this season. On the other side, ASU's penalty kill went 4-for-4 including killing off a 5-minute major.

"Special teams did their job, we got a big goal to start the game and get us up going into the second period," said head coach Greg Powers.
