Chatman homers twice leading ASU softball to series-clinching win over Cal

DeNae Chatman’s three-run homer in the first inning Sunday propelled Arizona State softball to a 10-6 win over California.

Chatman also hit a two-run homer in the sixth after Cal pulled within 7-5.

ASU built a 7-0 lead through three innings on its way to a series-clinching victory on Senior Day honoring Morgan Howe, Skylar McCarty and Taylor Becerra.

Howe was 3-of-4 hitting and McCarty 1-for-3. Becerra suffered a season-ending knee injury last week.

Cielo Meza (5-2) threw five innings and was the winning pitcher for ASU, now 30-18, 10-11 Pac-12, with Samantha Mejia finishing up.
