ASU women’s tennis rolls past Mississippi State in NCAA First Round

Arizona State women’s tennis secured a victory in its first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, defeating Mississippi State 4-0 in Austin.

The Sun Devils took the doubles point, with key victories from Ilze Hattingh/Lauryn John-Baptiste and Sammi Hampton/Marianna Argyrokastriti. ASU would never look back in singles and end up moving on.

“I’m really happy for the team,” said head coach Sheila McInerney in a recap from Sun Devil Athletics. “It’s never easy to win in your first round. We came out and secured the doubles point, which we struggled with a bit in the Pac-12s, and then went on to win six first-sets and close out pretty quickly thanks to Ilze, Sammi and Domenika.
