ASU softball uses nine-run sixth inning to stay alive in NCAA regional

Arizona State softball broke open a tie game with a nine-run sixth inning Saturday for a 10-1, run-rule win over Lipscomb in an NCAA Tournament regional elimination game in Tuscaloosa.

ASU (35-19) will play No. 8 national seed Alabama (54-7) again at 11 a.m. Sunday. The Sun Devils must beat the host Tide twice at Rhoads Stadium to advance to a super regional.

Skylar McCarty doubled leading off the ASU sixth in a 1-1 game. After Kindra Hackbarth was intentionally walked, Jade Gortarez drove in the lead run off Mandy Jordan (18-9).

The Sun Devils continued to pile on, scoring on an Alli Tatnall sac fly, two-RBI hits by Kiara Kennedy and Bella Loomis and off two errors.
