Sophomore guard Jaelen House connected on a pair of free throws with 11 seconds left to help the No. 25 Sun Devils (3-1) secure a 70-62 victory over California in the Pac-12 opener for both schools Thursday night at Haas Pavilion.
The teams are starting conference play a month earlier than in the past with the Pac-12 moving from an 18-game to a 20-game conference schedule
The contest was tight from the start with neither team able to pull out to a double digit lead. The biggest for ASU was eight points which came for the first time at 54-46.
