ASU runs out of gas, drops Las Vegas Bowl to Fresno State

LAS VEGAS — Arizona State didn't panic.

The Sun Devils have been down many times during the course of the season, only to rally back and make a game of it. But unlike all the games down the stretch of the season, this one didn't come out in their favor when all was said and done.

It was No. 21 Fresno State riding the 212-yard rushing effort of sophomore Ronnie Rivers to a 31-20 victory in the Las Vegas Bowl Saturday afternoon in front of 37,146 fans at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Mountain West Conference champion Fresno State (12-2) picked up a 12th win for the first time in school history, just two years after going an abysmal 1-11, the year before coach Jeff Tedford arrived.
