TUCSON – Arizona State's offense couldn't overcome its defense Friday night in the 90th Territorial Cup.
After a slow start and marginal rushing throughout at Arizona Stadium, ASU revved up enough to rally from 21 points down to within a touchdown twice. But the Sun Devils couldn't match the explosive runs that Arizona repeatedly hit on ASU's defense and were outscored 21-7 over the final quarter and a half in a 56-35 UA victory.
"We really probably did some things good enough offensively to win, but we were just so porous defensively against the run you're not going to have a chance to win a game like that," ASU coach Todd Graham said.
