The No. 1 seed Arizona State men's golf team advanced to the NCAA semifinals with a 3-1 victory over No. 8 seed North Carolina in quarterfinal match play action at Grayhawk Golf Club Tuesday morning.
ASU will face No. 4 Oklahoma in the semifinal at 1:35 p.m. The Sooners, the No. 1 ranked team in the country coming in, beat No. 5 Illinois 3-2.
ASU and North Carolina split the first two matches with North Carolina's Peter Fountain defeating ASU's David Puig 2 and 1. But that lead evaporated quickly as sophomore Ryggs Johnston, the third place finisher in the individual competition earlier this week, registered a 4 and 3 victory over Ryan Burnett.
