Junior Merlin Robertson of Arizona State has been named to the Butkus Award Watch List, becoming the third Sun Devil to be singled out as a candidate for the top annual award going to a player at his position.
Robertson has been a starter since arriving on the Tempe campus as a true freshman in 2018. Last season he racked up 72 tackles with 34 of those solo. He also totaled three forced fumbles, one recovery and an interception.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound linebacker from California had perhaps his best game of the season in ASU's 20-14 Sun Bowl win over Florida State managing five tackles, two of those for a loss, forcing two fumbles and recovering one of those.
