ASU fans should be happy other schools are courting men's basketball coach Bobby Hurley

Fans of the Arizona State men’s basketball team have two reasons to rejoice this morning, one of which is obvious.

Coach Bobby Hurley announced via Twitter on Thursday evening that he and school officials are negotiating a contract extension. That means Hurley isn’t leaving for St. John’s, which reportedly courted him.

The other reason ASU fans should be happy today is that Hurley was courted at all.

Since 1982, when Ned Wulk was fired (four games shy of reaching 500 career victories), the ASU job has been a career killer.

Those who followed Wulk were either fired or resigned after failing to resurrect the program: Bob Weinhauer, Steve Patterson, Bill Frieder, Rob Evans and Herb Sendek.
