Arizona State women's basketball adds former Rutgers forward as third transfer

Forward Mael Gilles is transferring from Rutgers to Arizona State for her bonus year of eligibility.

Gilles played four years at Rutgers but has a fifth year of eligibility because of a COVID exception for winter sport athletes competing in 2020-21. She is a grad transfer to ASU.

The 6-1 Gilles started 55 games at Rutgers, averaging 8.1 points and 4.3 rebounds as a senior. She shot 36.4 percent from 3-point as a junior, but that percentage dropped to 27.7 as a senior.

"Honestly I was looking for somewhere hot," said Gilles (pronounced my-EL J'EYE-els), who grew up in Montreal.
