In something less than earth-shattering news, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo on Wednesday named right-hander Zack Greinke his Opening Day starter, an announcement that was more procedural than anything.
Though Greinke is coming off a down year, he’s still the club’s most accomplished starter -- not to mention it’s highest paid – so it’s no surprise he’s again getting the nod.
Lovullo also said Greinke will make his first start of the Cactus League on Friday, an outing that puts him about an outing behind the rest of his teammates.
“He’s probably five days different than everybody else, which was part of the thought process from the very beginning,” Lovullo said.
