LOS ANGELES – Shortly after his most recent outing, Zack Greinke was asked if he were aware of whom he’d be facing in his next start.
“No,” he said. “Is it Kershaw?”
Told it was, Greinke looked toward the ground and smiled widely. It was perhaps as excitable as he has been in his year-plus with the Diamondbacks.
For three seasons, Greinke and Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw represented baseball’s most formidable duo, perennial Cy Young candidates stacked atop a single rotation.
But they have never faced each other. Greinke is looking forward to the opportunity.
