Ugly play sinks Taijuan Walker, Diamondbacks in loss to Giants

SAN FRANCISCO – On a roller that traveled about 35 feet, on a play that lasted just 12 seconds, Diamondbacks right-hander Taijuan Walker allowed an outing to get away from him on Monday afternoon. He said later he tried to get an out where there wasn’t one. The San Francisco Giants managed to turn that one mistake into a win.

After a weeklong assault on opposing pitching, the Diamondbacks’ bats went quiet for a day. Their customary middle-inning outburst never materialized. And their first game outside of Chase Field was a dud, their 4-1 loss to the Giants coming down to a swinging bunt off the bat of the opposing pitcher.
