Torey Lovullo on no-no alert whenever Zac Gallen on mound

Zac Gallen's starts have begun to feel like no-hitters waiting to happen, and Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said he began thinking about that possibility just a few innings into Monday night’s 4-3 win over the Oakland Athletics.

It didn’t end up happening – Gallen gave up a single with one out in the sixth – but Lovullo was preparing himself for the possibility.

“I felt early on, in the third or fourth inning, like he had no-hit stuff,” Lovullo said. “He was peppering the zone with all sorts of pitches. I did go over to the medical team and said, ‘Can we get on this right now and let me know what you guys feel comfortable with, pitch count-wise?
