The right-handed Shields allowed a run on two hits and struck out two in his two innings. After a one-two-three first inning, Jake Lamb opened the second with a double and scored on a Chris Owings RBI single.
"It felt good to get out there," Shields said. "The first outing always feels a little awkward, but it felt good. I mean, it felt great to get out there and throw and get in a live baseball game. We're always working on our craft, on pitching and all that good stuff. But right now I'm just kind of focused on getting my arm in good shape.
