Payroll space creates offseason possibilities for Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks enter their offseason in a position largely foreign to them – or, at least, foreign to their current group of baseball operations executives. They have money to spend. And, the way things line up, that payroll flexibility extends well beyond next season.

Much of this is the result of the midsummer blockbuster that sent high-priced right-hander Zack Greinke to the Houston Astros, a move that freed up some $53 million.
